Frank Colclough was born in wick, Caithness, lived in London before settling din Alloway in 1975. He worked originally as a design-draughsman while studying art at Ayr sketch club and the Octagon group, Franks work is now featured in several galleries throughout Scotland and further afield.
South Ayrshire Council have many of his watercolours in their collection, and the major Scottish societies R.S.W, R.G.I, R.S.A. have all exhibited works on many occasions. Franks early works were in watercolour, but over the past few years he has worked in acrylic and oils.
His inspiration for his painting stems from his admiration of the Scottish colourist movement, and this is reflected in his work which now consists mainly of views of the West cost of Scotland and colourful still life studies.
