John Bell

John was born in Ayr in 1968 but was brought up in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland.
He graduated in Architecture from Glasgow’s Mackintosh School of Architecture in 1993
and has now returned to Ayrshire, where he lives with his family in Troon. John paints and
exhibits work in galleries around Scotland and England.
Working in oils, John paints landscapes and seascapes – mainly around Scotland. The Ayrshire
coast, with its expansive shoreline, provides an unlimited source of inspiration.  He is
interested in the quality of light and colour in the Scottish landscape, particularly the sky,
which often dominates his paintings. His expressive brushwork conveys the form and
movement of the ever-changing Scottish weather, which can transform the atmosphere in a
moment.
